PAWS & WAGGS

I'm Waggs.  I was adopted by a great family about a year ago.  I have a big back yard to play in and there are many squirrels to chase.

I'm Paws.  I was also adopted by a good & fun-loving family.  We play ball & Frisbee almost every day.

Westies like me come to rescue from lots of different places and for lots of different reasons.  When they come from private homes, all the medical records are requested and Miss Dorothy, she's the Rescue Coordinator, calls the Vet to see if there is any additional information she and/or a new owner might need.
Hey Paws, what if they are like me?  I was abandoned and someone found me on the street and took me to a Shelter.  Tell the folks about that.
Well, when a Westie comes from a shelter or is found by the Police or someone else, Miss Dorothy takes them to the Vet for a a check-up.  Sometimes they need shots (ouch!!), especially that nasty old Rabies vaccination.  And they have to be spayed or neutered, too.  Not spaying or neutering pets is one of the reasons why so many animals have to be rescued!  Hey Wags, how old were you when Miss Dorothy found you a new home.
Gee, I think I was about 5 years old.  You know, Miss Dorothy takes in Westies of all ages.  I even heard about one named Annabelle who was 13 when Miss Dorothy found her a new home!
Waggs, tell the people how they can adopt a Westie.
Okay.  Anyone who wants to give one of us a good home needs to call Miss Dorothy, or the Rescue Coordinator in their area.  She asks them a bunch of questions to be sure that a Westie is the right dog for that family or that person.  Then she mails a letter that explains all about the Rescue program, a questionnaire and an application to them.  Those all have to be filled out and returned to her.  Miss Dorothy keeps the applications for six months.  She said that if she kept all the applications, she'd have a house full of paper!  Actually, purging the paperwork helps her to determine which families still want Westies.  Sometimes a person who has filled out an application gets another dog in the mean time and then they don't want the rescue dog anymore.  Miss Dorothy says that all anyone has to do is give her a call every few months and she'll make sure she keeps their paperwork.
Yeah, and when she gets a rescue Westie that needs to be placed, she reviews all those applications to see which family that Westie will make the happiest.  Hey Waggs, did you know that for every one female Westie there are six or seven males that Miss Dorothy places through Rescue?!
Is that because us boys are so lovable?
I don't know about that.  I do know that there are lots of wonderful people like my family who have adopted rescue Westies and they couldn't be happier.
Yeah, and there are lots more homes waiting for a Westie like us.
We are so happy to be able to tell you folks out there about Rescue and were really glad that you are considering adopting one of our Westie buddies.
